My dad warned me that this would happen. That one by one friends would be pulled by the tide of life in different directions to pursue different opportunities (internships, jobs, etc.). It's exciting to see my friends chase after and pursue their dreams but sad that were not all together as we were last summer. That was the best summer of my life. I'll remember the road trip we took to Austin to float the river for the rest of my life. I can remember driving around downtown Austin with the windows down as the sun was setting listening to "Kids" by MGMT thinking how good it is to be young. My last "real" summers are limited and I'm treasuring every second of it knowing that soon the tide of life will have moved me somewhere else.
These lines from "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel really sum it up for me.
But for now we are young
Let us lay in the sun
And count every beautiful thing we can see
And while were on the topic of summer, something about this song just feels like a warm evening where you go to get a snow cone in your swimsuit and jean shorts.
